Turn Up The Suck

Show Of Hands 2

All the fast, unbridled punk the band could conjure up in the last seven years. A full force sonic assault on your ears, with social political overtone, this record will have you burnin flags and roastin weenies on the fourth of July.

From Autumn To Ashes
Abandon Your Friends
Now that it's trendy to combine grinding metallic guitars and hardcore rhythms with heart-on-sleeve vocals and hum-along melodies, dozens of bands are writing predictable songs that alter ingredient levels slightly in what feels like a search for the the perfect recipe. Abandon Your Friends, the new album by From Autumn to Ashes, shred and burn the recipe book altogether. The result, according to MTV.com, is a split of six savage cuts and six wispy rockers for a beautiful-as-it-is-brutal hardcore record. Produced by GGGarth, From Autumn to Ashes once again deliver a honest, tense, and original sound.  From interpunk

Me Versus The Monster

Resurrectionist

Show Of Hands 1

Released on September 6, 2005

MVTM’s first release on Show of Hands Records is a more developed sound for the band. Bringing together awkward time signatures and catchy hooks; with influences such as Bad Brains and Fugazi; MVTM is one step closer to bringing back the DC sound that has been missing from the area for so long.

Hey, I bought this 7" just because it had Jennifer Love Hewitt on the cover and who wouldn't. It's awesome though, probably one of the best records I ever bought. Even if you've never heard of them, buy it, I didn't know who they were and it's GREAT!

Very fun comp of 80's punk rock/hardcore or whatever your labeling preference may be. Mostly US bands but some choice world bands. It's a good mix of the raw, the powerful and in some cases, the bizarre. Highlights are the tracks from the following The Wrecks,Executioner,Ribzy,Raw Power,Nog Watt,Red Scare,Sado Nation, Adrenaline OD, YDI, White Cross,Detonators,Crucifix. All other bands are of varying goodness but its definitely worth grabbin' if you grove out on this time period's noise. Good for those long car rides!

Hot Cakes...Sugar tits? Band? I think Mr. P. J. Slonskis has a point. Aside from the fact that you can use his initials (PJS) to form an acronym for Peanut-Butter and Jelly Sandwitches...I too love this band so fucking much. This is smoke, or is it fire, not that that should mean anything to anyone else. Just that one is the effect of resistance, and the other is the means by which to cause it. At any rate this CD will effecively generate both smoke and fire. Pop it in your CD player and walk into any church, at it will burst into flames, and Reverend Lovejoy will scream "WORSHIP THIS, and JERICHO THAT" before his entire congregation is reduced to smoke and ashes. Walk into any Punk club listening to this, and prepare to be chastised and exiled in the name of a persistant desire to keep things ignorant and emotionless. This should be a CD for everyone, but it isnt. This is a CD for anyone who refuses to call themselves "Punk" because of the shame given to that name by everyone else who insists on using it. (i.e. Rancid, Dropkick Murphies, Everyone at the Leftover Crack show in Stockton, CA in Oct. 2005, including LOC, but excluding the Stockyard Stoics). Buy this if your sick of everything else, or if your a member of the Teamster's Local 386 and have Union tatoos and shit.

Oh, and Paul (see below)...It's been too long since we had a day together in Chicago, Next February perhaps? See you at the Taco Bell in Chicago Ridge, but first we need to tape "The Fantum Meniss" on the cups we steal from Cinnabon customers to more readily recieve free re-fills.

Death Before Emo CD
11/30/2005 by Matthew from Fayetteville, NC
I cant think of another band that sounds like In Stereo. Formed with ex members of Nuclear Saturday, "Death Before Emo" is just GOOD. "Waking Up" is my favorite, followed by "Hey Amy". This is another one of those that you wish was more than an EP. I cant wait for thier full length! I drove my girlfriend crazy playing this record, refusing to let her touch the stereo unless she was turning it up. A few songs have an amazing "old school" charm that I cant get enough of, the harmonies are extremely well done, and of course the record sounds amazing, coming from New School. Poppy, catchy, and ultimately fun to listen to, no matter what genre suits you best, I guarantee you will like this record.

WOW. These guys keep picking up steam as the albums are released. If this were a full length, these guys would be talking to Hopeless or Fat right about now. Released early last year, "Nothing New" is an amazing explosion of fast riffs and catchy tunes that definitely leaves you wanting. And at that price, can you afford to say no? Buy this EP!

Traveling for the holidays? Take this album with you! I threw it in for the first time on a recent road trip and it was like a soundtrack for the trip. Full of great riff's, excellent melodies, and awesome lyrics, the album flowed smoothly from track to track. I dont know enough to compare them to Evergreen Terrace, but if I had to describe My Hostage's first NSR release in a word, I'd go with "smooth". I have to admit it took me a second listening to really catch on, but now I'm hooked. Expect to hear about My Hostage a lot more in the future.

I like Bright Eyes and already own all of these releases on CD, but if you really like Bright Eyes like I do, then buy this Box Set. First of all it's good. Second of all it's Bright Eyes, so it's really good. Last and most importantly, this thing is out of print now. Buy it now. You can't get this from the Saddle Creek site anymore and people are buying it on ebay for like $80 and eventually more as it gets older. Don't wait, it could be too late to get it from here.

This is a good record, but not their best of course. I've never heard a bad Bright Eyes release, but some are better than the others. Either way it is only $4 so why not buy it. Plus you better buy it soon and might as well buy 2 or more copies because one day it will be out of print and you can make some money on ebay. I bought this because I pretty much collect everything from every band I like, especially Saddle Creek bands. I would also suggest buying the Bright Eyes' Box Set, because it recently went out of print and will not be around much longer. If you like Bright Eyes then buy it, if you've only heard Digital Ash or I'm Wide Awake, then you might as well buy every other cd from Bright Eyes because they are just as good as the new releases.

Interpunk Local Compilation 2005 CD

11/23/2005 by Christian from Magdeburg, Germany
This comp really have something for everyone. From punk/hardcore/screamo, even some grindy metalcore. But as said before not of the songs are that great. The better songs are from Stars Hide Fire (the only bands I've known before ... and I really like them), Bring Me The Horizon (heavy), The Great Redneck Hope (short, but also good) and The Flaming Tsunamis (even if I don't listen to ska normaly, but they mix it with hardcore/screamo) It only $3.00, so buy it if you want to check out some bands that you possibly never have heard of before...

This is amazing, the only weak spot on this entire dvd is that because it tells the entire story of the band from start to present in a 3 1/2 hour long documentary, it could be a bit difficult for some people to keep interest. Otherwise it's absoloutely incredible. The interviews with all the bands members from past and present are really in depth and have a great deal of emotion and honesty. It's two discs, the documentary is disc one. Disc two is in three parts, two full live sets, and a third section of different shows put together. Watching this could easily take up an entire day of your life. I would definitely recommend this dvd to anyone who is into this band. It's by far the best band dvd I've ever seen.

Out of all the straight edge bands of the late 80's, Side by Side seems to be one of the most underrated. They're not as popular as Gorilla Biscuits, as influential as Youth of Today, or as musically advanced as Bold, but nonetheless You're Only Young Once is a powerful album and should be purchased by anyone into Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today, Bold, Wide Awake, and Champion.

This CD is nuts. A bunch of high school kids that play crazy fast/technical black metal/punk/space rock/acoustic ballads. It's kind of a concept album, which I tried to research to find out exactly what's going on....to minimal success. What I did find is that this CD loses some of it's initial appeal the more I listened to it, but that first week when I couldn't get it out of my CD player was totally worth it.

Oooooo. This is an unexpectedly good CD. I can't believe I'd never heard of them before, especially since Thomas is in this band. It's nothing groundbreaking in terms of musicianship and that's ok 'cause they still have their own flair and that's important in punk rock. Great political lyrics, Thomas' well known gravely voice and catchy little sing alongs make this one of the better punk Cds I've heard in a while (considering this came out some time ago and not counting Propagandhi's new CD).

This Album Sucked. If you love generic lyrics, thoughtless power chords, and poop; This CD is for you. I have no idea if other Virus albums are as bad, but this was bad. 11/22/2005 by Christian from New York, NY
This is a good video. Whether you are an Alkaline Trio fan or not (I am), this DVD is worth the $15. The sound is pretty good, the songs are well selected, and the scene is macabre. I would have asked for one or two more tracks off of "From Here To Infirmary", but the songs from the Alkaline Trio CD were great. I have a new found respect for Dan Andriano, I had no idea he could play like that. I say get the DVD and decide for yourself. Now that I am on record saying that this DVD is worth $15, I should be clear: the photo gallery and other DVD "extras" don't add much. This DVD is a bad ass show, and that's why its worth the price, so don't expect the extras to be worth much.

Well, I'm not exactly sure what to think about Chris leaving the band.. however, I found myself thinking the exact same thing I was thinking when I first bought "Today's Empires.." when it came out: "This is by FAR the BEST Propagandhi record I've ever heard!!!" You don't have to completely agree with thier beliefs to recognize good song structure, well thought out lyrics and amazing musicianship. These guys are playing thier asses off. Good Canadian bands may be few and far between, but bands like Propagandhi make up for it :)

Easily one of the most underated bands of all time. People should remember this band, like they remember the Buzzcocks or the Rezillos. Such energy and catchy buzzsaw new wave/pop-punk songs. If you are a fan of The Boys, you will love hearing alternate versions of some of their best jams like "First Time", "I Don't Care", "Soda Pressing" and many others! If you are new to this band, pick up their self titled album "The Boys" (cool artwork cover)first!

This may be my favorite Nekromantix album out of all their catalog. Like alot of people, I picked up their Hellcat Releases first (easier to get), then I started tracking down their other albums "Curse of Coffin & Hellbound" and finally I got "Demons Are A Girl's Best Friend". I honestly think this is their best album. It just seems to flow well, song after song. The two bonus tracks at the end ("Light My Fire" (Doors cover) and another version of "DAAGBF") really make the album awesome. Highly recommended for Nekromatix listners!

Eh. This is ok...There is really no distinction between songs though. The whole album seems like an amalgamation. I don't really know why I bought it. I thought that becuase it was dedicated to their buddy, it would be different and more sincere. But it really isn't. They should have made the entire album one song...they could get away with it. I wasn't even aware they brought out a new album but as I liked the first one so much I bought it without even listening to a track. And since I got it its been in my CD player every day. I actually like it more than their first. Good breakdowns and screaming, well thought out songs that work well. Definetly buy this if you are a fan!

11/20/2005 by Hugh from Norwalk, CT
It's for a good cause, but nothing too incredible beyond track 4. Mostly acoustic songs and a general lack of speed throughout, but it's okay if you're into that kind of stuff. The best feeling is you're helping save children, and I'd still rather pay $7.75 to hear "Leaving Jesusland" than simply leave it at a charity. Try it.

Tempest In A Teapot 7''

11/20/2005 by Hugh from Norwalk, CT
Very 1990s-sounding and speedy, kinda like AFI mixed with Brand New. "Tempest In A Teapot" and "Pennyfeather" are very long and require time and patience to chill out and slow-cook. The accurately-named "Post-Hardore Syndrome" is almost worth the price of admission alone. "Rosebud" is the second-best but good and fast. "Passion" is quick and short but satisfying. For just $3.50, I'd recommend it to any post-hardcore fan or punk with a record player.

Amazing! Every song is awesome and the deepest notes are goose-bump inducing in a good way. If you recall "State of Fear" was on Rock Against Bush 2. If you hated that song, then you'll hate this album, though. The structure of most songs makes them irresitable and timeless, as well as uplifting. Get it! Get it!

This is possibly one of my favorite psychobilly bands. It sounds like old Tiger Army, except more psycho. The slap bass is extremely loud, which is even better. There's also an extremely funny extra song if you wait a little bit after Curse of the Pentagram. So Much For Letting Go: A Tribute To Jawbreaker Vol. 1 CD
11/29/2005 by Alex from Long Beach, CA
Despite that i feel no one will ever find this cd as its not listed under jawbreaker, nor is it very well advertised, i still feel it is a fun listen for jawbreaker fans, who dont want the commercialized whore saturated covers offered by the likes of fall out boy and nerf herder on the poppy and catchy (although superior) Bad Scene, Everyone's Fault. This cd offers a few songs that arent on said cd, which bring jawbreaker into a new light. The Save Your Generation cover is nice and well composed, whereas the accident prone one takes the beautiful song and rips it to shreds tearing at its sporadic and violent core and exposing it for what it is, which is not a bad thing. all in all though the best song is the cover of Do You Still Hate Me? which brings the lyrics into full perspective and allows you to appreciate the song for what it is. Fireman is a techno cover and hardly does the song justice but is interesting. The other tow i can't compare as i don't own Bivuoac or Etc. but i believe they were decent. all in all i sugest Bad Scene before this, but this is definetly a "that's interesting" type of cover cd, so buy them both. Also, interpunk should sell the other volume(s) as this is volume 1 and i yearn for more.

Bullets To Broadway -
Drink Positive CD
11/28/2005 by Jordan from Belleville, IL
This CD sounds like Teen Idols, but it just isn't as good. It's an alright CD, though I was a little bit dissapointed. Heather sounds great as always, but some of the songs are lacking and boring. Thes best songs are Happily Ever After, and The Whole World Lost Its Head. I'm a fan of Teen Idols and it's good to hear some new material, and the price was cheap too. So I give it a 4/5.
I would say all Teen Idols fans should definitely pick this up. And anyone else who hasn't heard them, you should probably check out Teen Idols - Full Leather Jacket, that is their best.

Nothin' to do and no where to go, I wanna be sedated

Just get me to the airport put me on a plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane

Oh no o no o no o no

Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go I wanna be sedated
Nothin' to do and no where to go-o-o I wanna be sedated

Just put me in a wheelchair get me to the show
Hurry hurry hurry before I gotta go
I can't control my fingers I can't control my toes

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

Vagrant 420

Released on October 18, 2005

click to buy
$11.50

Tony Hawk is to skateboarding what Michael Jordan is to basketball, Wayne Gretzky is to hockey, and Babe Ruth was to baseball. His image and celebrity status have long eclipsed what he can do on a board with four wheels, as you can no see him on TV endorsing everything from chocolate milk to bagel bites.

Tony’s video game series, Tony Hawk’s Underground (better known as THUG I and II), has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide and are favorites of gamers young and old. They appeal to not only the hardcore skater, but to those who’ve never even stepped foot on a board. Tony in of himself has become a brand name and the new game, Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland should see the same success as the previous releases.

The soundtrack to the game (and the music inside the game itself) is a lineup of today’s biggest and best bands in the world of rock. The premise was to get each of these bands to cover a song from a classic 80’s punk or hardcore band. Since the game is played in Los Angeles, you’ll find that most of the bands covered were West Coast based. Below is a listing the bands appearing on the soundtrack, as well as the songs and bands they covered.

Really good CD. Classic Ramones. It has 17 tracks added to it also. The extra tracks is a live show they played in 1976 at the roxy and the recordings were great. This is a great price for all these ramones songs, I really recomend getting this CD.

This CD was extremely jawesome. Its really jawesome punk with synthesizers and a female singer, Roxy Epoxy. She is jawesome also. The artwork is really jawesome. Its one of those Cds that when you get it it is all you listen to for about a month. All in all this CD is jawesome to the Max Rapid Fire.

Purple Blaze CD
12/1/2005 by Brian from Shippensburg, PA
This is the jam of the year! Buy this if you liked Q and not U...hell, buy this if you like music. Ris did a really good job of breaking into the solo thing in a unique fashion...it's far from the mopey pretentious singer-songwriter stuff you expect to hear from most fresh solo acts. Some Fresh Jamz is "Run up Wild on Me", "Colonialism", "Demo was a Runaway", "Hanging from the Grapevine","Purple Blaze", and finally "Daft Young Cannibals". He puts on a very engaging live show too and usually plays electric which puts an even more interesting spin on these songs, i strongly suggest catching it sometime.

I really enjoyed this album. Fucking good - if you haven't heard much from these fellows before, I would check out this or Problematic. Those are both good ALL albums. I havent heard much with the second singer, but love what I've heard from Dave Smalley. From this, "Fair Weather Freind", "WOrlds on Heroin", "Silly Me", and "Silence" are my favorites.

Recomended for fans of Descendents(obviously...) and anyone who enjoys fun punk-ish music.

What can I say about THE PLOT TO BLOW UP THE EIFFEL TOWER? Their one of the most amazing bands out there right now in my eyes. There A hardcore...... and a Jazz band. Its weird and yet amazing at the same time. I suggest that if you are a fan of different music you should pick up a copy of this o
